Nearly ten years ago I relocated from London to Wiltshire and I now live near Hungerford. Although I began my teaching journey on the equipment, after the financial downturn, some of my private clients asked if I would start a matwork class so that they could continue their regular practice at a more affordable rate and possibly come two or three times a week. They told their friends, the word spread, and for over ten years I enjoyed teaching keen ‘regulars’ who came back term after term. Their energy and commitment extended my love of Pilates onto the mat and now I enjoy teaching an even greater repertoire aiming to keep the classes interesting and challenging within the high standards of classical Pilates.
Matwork classes : Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings in Wiltshire.
I teach four matwork groups: Level 2 in Great Bedwyn on a Monday morning, Level 1 and Level 2 in Wootton Rivers on a Tuesday morning, and Level 3 in Burbage on Wednesday mornings. All classes work on lower abdominal strengthening, lower back stabilisation and muscular balance. Depending on those enrolled, the class is paced in an even, progressive style with a constant awareness of each individual. If a person is completely new to Pilates, I ask him or her to come for one or two discounted private classes with me before joining the group, to ensure that they feel confident about the basics and are ready to safely join the others. Please contact me directly for more information as the classes are continuously evolving!
Private 1:1 classes : Booked as single or weekly classes in Little Bedwyn.
I also teach on a 1:1 basis, either on the mat or incorporating the Reformer and Swiss Ball into the repertoire. We begin with a personal assessment looking at the person’s breath, body balance, mobility and posture. Then, using the pre-Pilates matwork exercises, we practice the ‘basics’ to ensure that they know how to ‘pull navel to spine’, successfully ‘recruit the pelvic floor’ where necessary, and know how to distinguish between doing movements with a flat lower back vs keeping the pelvis in neutral.
Once confident about these and other essentials, we then work with the Reformer, Feldenkrais roll, hand weights, fitballs and overballs. The Reformer is one of the original machines designed by Joseph Pilates and uses a system of springs and ropes to provide resistance or assistance, depending on the exercise performed. It is highly versatile and can provide support in a vulnerable area whilst still allowing another part of the body to strengthen and be challenged.
Private or small group matwork classes at your home: bookable by the hour plus travel time from my base to yours – anywhere within a 10 mile radius of Marlborough/Hungerford.
I also teach individuals at their own homes. A few of my clients have their own Pilates equipment and studio spaces, and others want regular matwork classes in the peace of their personal surroundings. This is an excellent option for someone who has limited mobility or time, or someone who wants to exercise in the comfort and privacy of their own home.
ZOOM classes are now available in groups or for private individuals.
Please enquire directly for more information.
Currently I run one weekly Zoom class, live on a Friday morning. As with all exercise programmes, when attending my Zoom classes, I ask you to use common sense. From day to day in class, you need to “feel how you feel”. Remember to listen to your body and if you feel any pain or that you’re aggravating an existing problem, ease back or stop that move and go onto the next one. If you have any doubts, and to reduce and avoid injury, double check with your doctor before proceeding. I am very happy to discuss any issues directly with your health practitioner or doctor thereby gaining greater transparency of your needs.
